The real base for all spaghetti dishes in Italy is tomato paste, and the same holds true for other Italian dishes, including pizzas. There are only two really important things that make a tomato pizza sauce taste good – tomatoes and water. Anything else just doesn’t work.

Myth: Queen Margherita Ate And Approved Of The Pizza That Bears Her Name

Myth: Queen Margherita Ate On White Bread: First of all, let us start by clearing one misconception: it is not true that Margherita are on white bread. I am pretty sure that if you had to go to the nearest Whole Foods in Chicago, you would find this type of pizza crust there. Now let us discuss about the pizza itself.
The pizza crust in question is called Sicilian. This is not related to any other pizza crust in Italy or elsewhere in the world. Sicilian pizza crusts are made from scratch using unleavened bread (also known as “caciocavallo” in Italian). The sauce used is rich, thick, and spread with olive oil. There are no tomato-based sauces used in this type of pizza.
Myth: Queen Margherita Ate And Approved Of The Pizza That Bears Her Name: Another popular myth about the origin of the pizza is about how Margherita ate the pizza after her marriage to King John. This story goes that Margherita and her husband decided to celebrate their union by having pizza. However, since John was not very keen on pizza, Margherita and her husband invented the “sicilian pizza” which, of course, carried the name of the famous queen of the Italian polo, as well as the recipe for which the pizza is made. So while the Queen of Polo technically didn’t eat pizza during her marriage to King John, the legend says she actually did.
Myth: Queen Margherita Ate Nothing In The Kitchen: A common myth about the Queen of Burgundy’s fondness for pizza is that she never had anything prepared for her. Well, she most certainly didn’t eat any of the pizza (which is probably why she was so thin in the first place), but she did keep a few cups of wine and some tortillas in her private kitchen. Needless to say, these foods would have needed quite a bit more preparation than the pizza that the Queen ate.
All in all, these are just a few of the many myths about Margherita that have been around for a long time. Some of them are probably true, others probably aren’t. But whichever ones you believe, it’s a fun time for you and your friends to have a little fun making up your own versions of the classic Italian foods. Just remember: if you want a picture to go with your version of the pizza, better find a picture of Margherita ate wall style!
